Extended Play

Auckland, New Zealand, 2019

Extended Play was commissioned for Sculpture on the Gulf and explored the limits of site, asking how a work might extend beyond a designated path. The project comprised a central work on the sculpture walk and a series of satellite works dispersed across Auckland, beyond Waiheke Island.

The central work took the form of a small, pyramidal light-based structure that appeared to emerge from the ground like the tip of an iceberg. The satellite works manifested as subtle vinyl interventions in public space, positioned outside the official walk. Though geographically separated, the works were visually linked through shared colour and form, proposing connection across distance and suggesting that sites, like people, remain entangled even when apart.
