Adaptive Space

Online, 2025

Adaptive Space simulates a hypothetical integration of a brain-computer interface (BCI) and cloud based AI to visualise a virtual reality that appears to continuously reconfigure itself in response to the user's neural activity. Functioning as an infinite simulation where no destination is fixed, the work performs the role of an AI constructing every room in real-time, ostensibly anticipating subconscious needs for comfort, stimulation, or rest. As the viewer moves through a doorway, the previous world dissolves, replaced by architecture generated specifically to maintain optimal engagement. The work speculates on a future where virtual reality becomes an active, listening system, perpetually hallucinating reality to satisfy the user's immediate emotional state.

This work is a real-time, full-screen, responsive generative system built with JavaScript and rendered using the HTML Canvas API.

The work includes a dopamine meter that fluctuates over time, increasing as new objects appear or as the subject moves to another room.
