Generative Dopamine Loop Environment
2025
Generative Dopamine-Loop Environment is a term developed by Novak to describe a digital system that changes continuously in response to signals associated with dopamine activation. In this work, live data from social media “likes” drives shifts in colour, shape, scale, motion, speed, and other variables. Each “like” becomes a generative event, with hundreds of elements evolving in real time. The animation reflects how AI-driven systems personalise and reinforce engagement, producing feedback loops that can lead to dependency and addiction.
This is an excerpt from a work that is a real-time, full-screen, responsive generative system built with JavaScript and rendered using the HTML Canvas API.
This work was commissioned by CIRCUIT with support from Wellington City Council.
