Fuse
Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery, Whanganui, New Zealand, 2021
Fuse presents an optimistic vision of a more closely connected community in Whanganui, where the distance between those inside and outside queer communities is reduced through shared space and understanding. Installed as a window intervention, the work forms part of Symplegma, a wider project developed for Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery that explores the close entwinement of local queer communities as a complex and interconnected whole. Layered geometric forms, gradients, and saturated colour evoke fusion, continuity, and mutual support. As light passes through the transparent surface, colour spills into the gallery and surrounding space, softening divisions and creating moments of shared illumination. The window operates as both a physical and symbolic site of connection, suggesting a future shaped by collaboration, harmony, and collective care.
